They say that the hair is a woman's crowning glory. That statement may sound so cliche, but it is true that hair care is something that should not come last in any list of ways to proper grooming. When you go out and people look at you, how your hair look will initially make an impression to people. It can even be a reflection what is going on inside of us - that is, do you look tired? Harassed? Rushed? Well rested?

Having said that, there are basic hair care tips that you can follow to improve the health of your hair and its overall look. Different types of hair: short, long, curly, straight demand different ways to care for them but one of the most important hygiene and hair care practices is washing/cleaning, which is usually done by shampooing. If you shampoo everyday, choose a mild shampoo that does not contain too many chemicals. The stronger the shampoo, the harsher it is on your hair, and it will result to dry, coarse, brittle hair and eventually can cause long-term damage. Everyday shampooers also need not use a second shampoo application during washing.

For those who wash their hair every other day, for instance, a second shampoo application after the first rinsing may be necessary to thoroughly remove the sebum and other hair buildup. Both short and long hair should be treated this way. Adequate rinsing is also very important in hair care. When minerals and other chemical constituents are left in the hair strands, they can cause buildup and thus make your hair feel greasy or sticky.

In case you feel that your hair has too much buildup and is feeling heavy from it, use clarifying shampoo. Because clarifying shampoos tend to cause hair dryness, you may want to use a conditioner right after washing. Conditioners make the hair more manageable and smoother, but they also sometimes contain silicone products that add coating to hair strands to give them a shinier look. To not overuse conditioners, you may want to try natural conditioners such as lemon juice or lime juice. Others even use vinegar or egg whites, although the smell may be one thing that can turn people off these homemade hair care products. Using warm water in washing the hair also helps because the warm temperature helps in opening up the hair cuticle to release excess oil and dirt. Finishing up with cold water, on the other hand, will close the cuticle, which then will help in preventing overproduction of sebum.

Both men and women can be affected by thining hair and it's often something that you need to learn to live with. However there can often be reasons for the hair loss to happen in the first place so it's important that you contact your doctor if you are at all worried. There are many possibilities for hair loss such as poor diet, thyroid problems, hormones and stress. It might be that all you need to do is take some basic vitamins for hair growth. Improving your diet and taking supplements might be beneficial if you are just starting to notice thining hair. However if you're really bald then you might be prescribed some medicine.
